Pressed with high numbers of immigrants coming to the country Sweden unveiled a plan to deport up to 80,000 of them. Swedish migration minister Morgan Johansson said that out of 160,000 refugees and migrants that arrived to Sweden last year, tens of thousands are simply not eligible to get political asylum under current laws and rules. Swedish authorities estimate that between 50,000 and 80,000 will likely have to leave either voluntarily or forcibly. Many European countries are imposing different measures, hoping to reduce the unprecedented wave of refugees and migrants who are escaping war zones, poverty or just seeking better lives.
Japan unveiled its first stealth fighter jet last week. Its first flight is scheduled in mid-February and slated for delivery to the defense ministry by the end of March, 2017. The X-2 is being developed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries as a successor to the F-2 fighter jets, produced jointly with the United States. Presently, only the United States, Russia and China are recognized as having successfully developed and flown manned stealth jets.
Finally, a temporary fifth lion sculpture was unveiled at London’s Trafalgar Square to highlight endangered big cats. British TV presenter Rachel Riley, who unveiled the sculpture, says that there are more lion statues in the world than there are lions roaming in the wild. The statue, made of clockwork mechanics, will be auctioned off to raise money for National Geographic’s Big Cats Initiative, a conservation and education project designed to halt the decline of big cats in the wild.
